ATHEIST LOBBYISTS LAUNCH MASSIVE EFFORT TO ORGANIZE FOR POLITICAL POWER IN ALL 50 STATES

The Secular Coalition for America (SCA), a national group representing atheists and secularists, is continuing its plans to politically organize on a massive scale. Back in March, The Blaze reported about the group’s intensive lobbying of Congress. Now, the SCA has announced a schedule that will lead to the creation of state chapters throughout the United States.

This announcement, which will bolster atheists’ power across the nation, comes just weeks after the lobbying group announced the hiring of Edwina Rogers, a prominent Republican strategist, as the group’s executive director. According to a press release announcing the 501(c)(4)’s growth, new chapters will be launching in 48 states and in Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico by the end of 2012. There are already chapters in Arizona and Alabama.

In June, the SCA claims that it will begin holding organizing calls for individual states. These trainings, which will continue through August, will provide the framework needed to assist chapters in their formation. This preparatory period will also include assistance with web sites and educational materials, as well as other support services.

The purpose of the organizational model is to very clearly magnify the SCA’s impact so that non-believers can continue their campaign for ideological dominance and equality — specifically at the state level.

“Some of the most egregious violations of church state separation are being promoted and passed at the state level, and we absolutely must act to stop it,” Rogers proclaimed. “There are 40 million Americans who don’t identify with any religion, but our political influence has been limited because we have not been organized. This year, that changes.”

The SCA, according to its statement, has traditionally focused upon federal efforts throughout its 10-year history. But this new effort — to bring efforts into effect at the state-level — represents a major shift in strategy. Here is the schedule the group presents in terms of how it will reach out to U.S. states:

• Phase 1 (June  1 – June 22) – Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia
• Phase 2 (June 25 – July 13) – Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Montana, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas
• Phase 3 (July 16 – August 3) – Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Washington
• Phase 4 (August 6 – August 17) -  Alaska, Delaware, District of Columbia, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin
• Phase 5 (August 20 – August 31) – Indiana, Nebraska, New Hampshire,  Puerto Rico, West Virginia, Wyoming

The SCA will use this opportunity to stop legislation that it sees as reprehensible. This will likely include bills that allegedly blur the lines between church and state. Additionally, atheists will use the opportunity to train and work with local and state officials before they make their way to Congress and other federal posts — yet another method that helps put secularists’ issues to the forefront.

'Montgomery County asked to close schools for Muslim holidays' Washington Examiner


Montgomery County officials are considering closing schools for two Muslim holidays next school year.

At-large County Councilman George Leventhal asked school leaders in a letter to shut down campuses for Eid-ul-Adha and Eid-ul-Fitr, days when Muslim students and residents usually pray, feast and visit with family. Currently, Montgomery County Public Schools system offers excused absences to these students.

But the school-aged Muslim population is growing, Leventhal told The Washington Examiner, and it’s unfair that the schoolsclose for certain faiths’ observances and not others. Students in Montgomery County stay home for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Christmas, Good Friday and Easter Monday, as well as a number of nonreligious holidays.

“The schools close all the time. The schools close for parental guidance, the schools close for teacher training,” Leventhal said. “I just don’t think it’s that much of an inconvenience to close the schools, and I do believe observant Muslims are entitled to the same courtesy extended for years to Christians and Jews.”

Dana Tofig, a spokesman for the school system, wrote in an email, “We appreciate Councilman Leventhal’s letter and will certainly take it under consideration during our calendar-setting process, which includes parents, community members and staff.”

Leventhal said he’s meeting with Superintendent Joshua Starr in June to discuss closing the schools for Muslim holidays, among other topics.

No school system in the Washington suburbs currently closes for Muslim holidays like Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, or Eid-ul-Adha, which commemorates the willingness of biblical figure Abraham to sacrifice his son for God.

The holidays operate on a lunar calendar, so they vary each year. Next school year, Eid-ul-Fitr is scheduled for August, likely before the start of the school year; Eid-ul-Adha would close school on Friday, Oct. 26. In past years, the holidays have coincided with state standardized testing, and officials have since amended school policy to ensure the holidays are nontesting days.

Sharia in Sudan: Woman sentenced to be stoned to death for adultery

(Reuters) - A Sudanese woman, believed to be around 20, has been sentenced to be stoned to death for adultery, and is being held near Khartoum, shackled in prison with her baby son, rights groups and lawyers said on Thursday.

Campaigners condemned the ruling, saying it violated international standards and raised concerns that Sudan might start applying sharia, or Islamic law, more strictly following the secession of mostly non-Muslim South Sudan last year.

The woman, Intisar Sharif Abdalla, was sentenced by the Ombada criminal court on April 22, court documents seen by Reuters showed.

Two lawyers assigned to her case, who declined to be named, said they were launching an appeal adding Abdalla appeared to be under severe psychological strain.

"She's in dire need of a psychiatrist because she appears to be in a state of shock from the social and family pressures she's under," one lawyer said.

Abdalla was illiterate and did not have a lawyer or interpreter in the courtroom, although Arabic is not her native language, the lawyers and activists added.

Arabic is the main language in the overwhelmingly Muslim nation, though a wide range of smaller languages are also spoken, particularly in tribal areas. It was unclear where Abdalla came from.

Officials in Sudan's justice and information ministries said they could not immediately comment on the case when Reuters contacted them by phone.

Abdalla's exact age has not been confirmed, but activists said she was believed to be around 20, although some reports indicated she could be younger....

In 2010, the case of Lubna Hussein, a Sudanese U.N. official, sparked international furor when she was sentenced to flogging for wearing trousers.

Fahima Hashim, a women's rights activist following Abdalla's case, said sentences were often inconsistent in Sudan because the legal system gave authority to judges to decide punishments. Previous stoning sentences had not been carried out, she said.

Hashim called for the reform of articles in Sudan's criminal code which she said harm women's rights, including one used in Abdalla's case.

As long as this articles remained unchanged, execution by stoning would not be out of the question, she said. "It's a threat. It could happen."

Combat effort to make Shariah law supreme

The mission of the ministry I lead, Community Issues Council (CommunityIssuesCouncil.org), is: "To educate and unite the Church to be able to engage our community in the issues of the day."

As president of CIC, I take in and evaluate the news, and then sound an alarm if it appears there's a threat to the church's ability to live out our faith. Often, these situations arise quickly and must be dealt with based upon the facts at hand.

Before sounding the alarm, I study the issue to be sure the reason for the alert is valid. Once the flow of information has been initiated, ongoing investigation is done so updates can continue to be sent to the people who receive CIC information.

In this case my initial research uncovered ample evidence to arouse significant concern. This led me to agree to take leadership of The Education Coalition (www.Secure-Our-Schools.com) to educate people in the Tampa Bay area about the threat posed by those whose objective is to impose Shariah law in America.

CIC's educational emails have led more than 250 people to attend recent Hillsborough School Board meetings and prompted dozens of them to speak out. Their concern is about having representatives of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), or any organization that has been linked to the funding of terrorism, invited into our classrooms. It was also primarily CIC emails that brought about 80 concerned citizens out on a hot Saturday afternoon to protest an Islamic Society of North America (ISNA, another organization linked to the funding of terrorism) conference in Tampa two Saturdays ago.

These actions are based on facts. Here is a tiny sampling:

In 1928, after the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) was founded in Cairo, Egypt, with two stated objectives: to impose Shariah as the law of the land throughout the world, and to establish a worldwide Muslim state.

The MB is using massive infusions of cash from oil-rich nations to forward its objectives.

The MB spawned many offshoot organizations that are primarily in two categories: violent jihadists like Hezbollah and Hamas, and cultural jihadists who use infiltration and indoctrination as the means to succeed in the MB's two goals.

CAIR and ISNA are among these "cultural jihadists."

Public statements, some subtle and some overt, made by founders and leaders of CAIR and ISNA are quoted in media across the country. They state their intention to fulfill the objectives of the MB in America.

CAIR and ISNA are unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation terrorist funding trial. CAIR and ISNA stipulated to the evidence presented against them in the Holy Land Foundation trial and tried multiple times to have their names expunged from the record of the trial. The judge refused, stating there was ample evidence to link both organizations to Hamas.

The stipulated evidence was legally acquired by the FBI in a wiretap of a meeting of MB leaders in 1993 and in a raid of a home of an MB leader in 2004. In this home they found the archives containing all the MB plans for replacing the Constitution with Shariah.

This same evidence was used to convict the first five co-conspirators indicted in the Holy Land Foundation trial on all 108 counts that were brought against them. Among the five were the head of the Texas chapter of CAIR and a leader in the national organization.

The 246 unindicted co-conspirators were to be indicted and tried in small groups. This plan was stopped when the Obama administration unexplainably quashed the prosecutions.

Among the next group scheduled to be indicted was Omar Ahmad. According to the FBI, Ahmad and Nihad Awad, the two founders of CAIR, are members of Hamas.

Numerous other leaders throughout the CAIR organization have been found guilty of terrorism-related charges.

Sue Myrick, chairwoman of the Congressional Counterterrorism Committee, called CAIR "the propaganda arm for Hamas in America."

Many people have fallen for the taqiyya (a type of lying that's approved of in the Quran) that they've received from Hassan Shibly and other MB operatives. Taqiyya encourages them to lie to non-Muslims if it will forward their efforts to impose Shariah as the law of the land.

People throughout our culture have been seduced by it, including many in the media, as evidenced by several recent editorials.

NEW YORK, May 16: The prominent human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program, along with Former Muslims United (FMU) will be hosting the first-ever “Summer Night for Human Rights” Town Hall dedicated to defending the freedom of conscience. Dedicated to Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, who has been sentenced to death in Iran for leaving Islam, the Summer Night for Human Rights will feature Muslim apostates from around the world, and call upon Muslims in the U.S. and the world human rights community to defend their right to change their religion or have no religion at all, and to denounce the Sharia that mandates such punishment.

The AFDI/SIOA Summer Night for Human Rights Town Hall will be held at the Marriott Hotel in Manhattan Beach, California. Geller said in a statement: “All the schools of Islamic law, without exception, mandate death for those who leave Islam. We’ve dedicated the Town Hall to Pastor Youcef because he is in imminent danger of being murdered for his beliefs, and we’ve invited numerous apostates from Islam to speak about the death sentence they must live under every moment because they have dared to leave Islam. We’re calling upon Hamas-tied CAIR to stand up for Pastor Youcef and other victims of Islam’s apostasy law at their so-called ‘Civil Rights’ conference so-called ‘Civil Rights’ conference and to stand for human rights for all. While CAIR officials Zead Ramadan and Cyrus McGoldrick are appearing on Iranian government TV complaining about resistance to Sharia in America, Youcef is languishing in an Iranian prison for exercising his freedom of conscience. Who speaks for him? They should be on Iranian television calling for the release of the pastor, not denouncing America. OBAMA REPORTEDLY CLAIMS TO KNOW MORE ABOUT JUDAISM THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENT

The day before he mistakenly attributed the German death camps where millions of Jews were murdered to Poland, President Obama met with twenty leading Conservative rabbis to thank them for their shared commitment in rebuilding the U.S. economy, and their collective contributions to society.

There, according to the Israeli news site Haaretz, “Obama … stressed he probably knows about Judaism more than any other president, because he read about it.”

“I [am] not going to tell you again how I even feel about Israel, but why [are] we still talking about it?” he reportedly asked rhetorically.

The president also wondered why no one asks Speaker of the House John Boehner or Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell about their support for the Middle East’s only real democracy.

William Kristol of the Weekly Standard responded to Obama’s question in a piece, writing: “The reason no one asks John Boehner or Mitch McConnell about their support for Israel is … because they really do support Israel. The reason people ask Barack Obama about his support for Israel is because his support for Israel has been equivocal.”

President Obama has long come under fire for the state of his relationship with Israel, with many on the right claiming that he says all the right things, but when it comes to the nation’s actual security, he fails.

For instance, the president has said that he supports a two state solution with boundaries based on the indefensible 1967 borders.

As for the claim that he “probably” knows more about Israel than any other president, Kristol responds:

His vanity boggles the mind. One could begin by citing Adams and Madison, who knew Hebrew, or Harry Truman, who knew Jewish history … but it’s silly to dignify this claim with a rebuttal. In thinking about the presidents since Truman, though, I’d guess the president who knew the most about Judaism was Jimmy Carter, who taught Sunday school and had a deep interest in religion. So let’s stipulate that of the modern presidents, Carter and Obama “know” the most about Judaism. But what is it they know? In Obama’s case, one could ask whether what he “knows” is what he learned from Rashid Khalidi and Jeremiah Wright.

But, according to YNet News’ account of the meeting, Obama maintained that he is being attacked by Republicans because of his Muslim-sounding name, and because he pushes Israeli PM Netanyahu to make peace with the Palestinians.

The Minister Louis Farrakhan isn’t one to avoid controversial language. In his Sunday address in San Diego, the Nation of Islam leader slammed Israel, lamented Mexico’s loss of land at the hands of American “trickery” and derided President Barack Obama for his endorsement of same-sex marriage. But that’s only a portion of what was uttered in his nearly three-hour address. During the last 10 minutes, the fiery Farrakhan erupted with fervency, applauding the violence of sharia law and giving some cryptic warnings to America regarding Iranian intervention.

In speaking to his “Arab brothers,” Farrakhan said that they should not kill their children who shame them. But rather than merely lambasting those who participate in honor crimes, he turned the discussion into a referendum on America (in all fairness, while making these comments, he did say that “Islam needs reform,“ and that his Arab brothers need ”mercy from God“ so they can get ”strong enough to live sharia” — but both statements came without proper explanation).

“To my Arab brothers, you should not kill your children in this honor killing after you bring yourself and them into a country that is a modern Babylon and they get sucked up into the culture of decadence,” he said. “They you’re angry with them because they brought shame on the family. Let me tell you, shame on you for looking to America for your health and bringing your children into this and not creating a world for them to revolve in that will keep the decency that you taught them in the old country.”

From here, the conversation turned into a rant about what goes on in the Islamic holy city of Mecca. Farrakhan explained that, following Jumu’ah prayer on Fridays, if someone is guilty of stealing something, locals don’t wait for that individual to go to jail where he or she will be fed and cared for. Instead, he says the offender has his or her hand cut off in the middle of the prayer square and in front of everyone.

If the man or woman steals again, the other hand is lopped off, he said. This would essentially serve as an example of the punishment that one would encounter if entering into crime. Farrakhan then moved on to another story in which he discussed a Filipino man who apparently raped a Muslim woman in Saudi Arabia. This man, too, faced a harsh retribution for his alleged actions. Here’s his commentary on the matter:

“Oh they couldn’t wait. I mean after they find you guilty ain‘t nobody that’s law-abiding feeding a guilty person. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you people. The taxpayers gotta come out of their pocket to feed murderers, thieves, cutthroats. ‘Ah Farrakhan now that is kind of harsh.’ Yeah, but what you do to people — if you’re innocent that is harsh — but if you’re guilty, brother — see, you expect mercy, but you don’t show it to those whom you rob and kill and rape — see. So, in our world, that man that raped that sister, his head came off. Oh it was quick too. They called it poke chop, that’s right…and when that head goes off, it rolls down the street, you know…”

Farrakhan went on to claim that stealing, fornicating and committing adultery “blinds the eyes, deafens the ears and dumbs the tongue.” Committing such actions, he contends, is as if one’s “head is gone,” as this is indicative of destroying the family — an action that is “worthy of death.”

Then, Farrakhan’s tough message for America was weaved into his closing, as the faith leader warned of potential calamity if the United States decides to take military action against Iran. This danger, he contends, would be thrust upon America by Allah.

“So, America I close. I tell you, you’re on your way to war and if you declare war on Iran at the behest of Israel and you bomb Iran and some of you are saying we should invoke Hiroshima again on Iran, meaning drop an atomic bomb on Muslims — I have even heard that they’re talking about even bombing Mecca…,” he continued.

Of course, there was no mention of where Farrakhan heard that Mecca, a city in Saudi Arabia, was on the U.S.’s list of bomb targets, but that didn’t stop him from making the allegation. He progressed, going on to explain how important it is that someone warn Mecca of the potential danger and that “somebody gotta do what God needs done.” Then, Farrakhan went on to say that he’s willing to give his life, if needed, to properly warn of the danger that will befall the world if America attacks Iran. His words for the U.S. were cryptic.

“So I’m warning you, America, if you bomb Iran, I’m looking at San Diego, I’m looking at your beautiful cities — the God that I represent is going to take out some of your cities with earthquakes,” he proclaimed. “You live in the city, I live in the city, but some of us are going to die, because we agree with them, agree with evil. So the God of judgement and justice, he’s going to kill a lot.”

And he wasn’t done there. Farrakhan continued:

This, of course, was the conclusion to his conflagrant speech, as he showcased his distaste for America and the impending wrath he believes the nation is going to potentially face. While it’s not surprising to hear extreme rhetoric coming from Farrakhan, there are certainly some troubling — and new — tidbits embedded here.

‘YOU ARE ALLAH’S ENEMY!’: RUSSIAN RADIO HOST BRUTALLY ATTACKED AFTER CRITICIZING ISLAM ON AIR

Russian media outlets are reporting that Sergey Aslanyan, a famous journalist and radio presenter, was brutally attacked outside his apartment Monday after making comments insulting to Islam.

“The Prophet Mohammed, as we know, was not a religious figure. He was a businessman, but after getting considerable financial support [he] built plans as to how to get to the top,” Aslanyan reportedly said.  He also speculated that Mohammed had some form of sexual disorder.

According to police, an unknown man called Aslanyan at 11.30 pm and asked him to come out for a talk. As soon as the Aslanyan left his house the man attacked him, hitting the journalist on the head and stabbing him on the chest, neck and an arm, before disappearing.

Aslanyan himself managed to call police and was later hospitalized at a major Moscow clinic where he was operated on. “The patient was brought last night to the operating room, now he is in intensive care,” said at the hospital.

Aslanyan was reportedly slashed at and stabbed fifteen to twenty times by an attacker shouting “You are Allah’s enemy!” though witnesses say there may have been more than one attacker.

However, despite widespread outcry in the Republic of Tatarstan, where Islam is the dominant religion, a spokesperson denied the allegation that they had anything to do with it.

“Islam does not recognize the resort to force – for this there are authorities and courts,”  he said.

Police are hoping to use CCTV footage to help identify the assailant, whom they believe to be roughly thirty years old.

As of now, the journalist’s condition is stable, and his room is being guarded by police.  However, Russia’s track record of protecting journalists is notoriously low.  More than fifty have been killed since the collapse of the Soviet Union, and most of the cases remain unsolved.

Lady Gaga Apologizes for Canceled Show in Indonesia NY Times


Lady Gaga apologized over the weekend to her fans in Indonesia after a sold-out concert she planned to perform in Jakarta was canceled amid threats of protests and violence from Islamic hard-liners, The Associated Press reported.

The concert, which was scheduled to be held this coming Sunday at Jakarta’s 52,000-seat Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, had elicited the ire of fundamentalist Muslim groups including the Islamic Defenders Front, which said that Indonesian youth would be corrupted by Lady Gaga’s costumes and dance moves. Some who objected to the performance said they planned to protest the singer’s arrival at the airport while others said they had bought tickets to the concert so they could stir up trouble inside the stadium. Indonesia, the fourth-most populous country in the world, has more Muslims than any other nation.

Lady Gaga had previously alerted her Twitter followers that the problems facing the concert were twofold: “Indonesian authorities demand I censor the show & religious extremist separately, are threatening violence.” But on Sunday she wrote that the show had been canceled entirely.

“I will try to put together something special for you,” Lady Gaga wrote on Twitter. “My love for Indonesia has only grown.”

The Indonesian police said they would not issue permits for the concert because of security concerns, but some prospective concertgoers accused the authorities of caving into threats from a religious minority group.

“This only shows to the world how weak security forces are in this country, how police are afraid of a bunch of hard-liners,” Johnny Purba, a 25-year-old fan, told The A.P. “Gaga’s two-hour show will not hurt Indonesian Muslims. For God’s sake, she is not a terrorist!”

Well done to the people of Murfreesboro, who continued their fight despite the relentless smear campaign by the enemedia, Islamic supremacists and Islamic apologists. Their initial approach to the battle was badly flawed, but they have regained their footing.

Their opposition to this monster rabat should be on size and preservation of proportion and architectural integrity of the neighborhood. No exceptions, no accommodation, no changing the rules for a "special class." No special rights for special classes.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A judge ruled Tuesday that construction of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro must stop because the county government failed to give adequate public notice of the plans.

Chancellor Robert Corlew issued his opinion that plans for the mosque approved by the Rutherford County Planning Commission are "void and of no effect".

"After consideration of the law and the evidence presented, the Court finds that the action of the county was not sufficient to provide the type of notice to citizens of the county that such matters were to be presented at the meeting of the Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission which should be expected under law,"the ruling stated.

On May 24, 2010, planning commissioners approved the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro's construction plans to build a 52,960square foot building with a mosque on Veals Road.

During the four-day trial in April, attorneys representing plaintiffs who sued Rutherford County said that interested members of the public were not able to attend the meeting where the facility was approved because they didn't know about it.

With this ruling, mosque members will have to seek new approval in a climate made hostile by nearly two years of plaintiffs'unsubstantiated claims that members have ties to terrorists.

FAMED SCIENTIST PREDICTS: EVOLUTION WILL SOON BE ACCEPTED BY EVERYONE

NEW YORK (The Blaze/AP) — Faithful beware. Famed scientist Richard Leakey predicts skepticism over evolution will soon be history. Despite continued controversy surrounding the debate over life’s origins, the avowed atheist sees a light at the end of the tunnel.

Sometime in the next 15 to 30 years, the Kenyan-born paleoanthropologist expects scientific discoveries will have accelerated to the point that “even the skeptics can accept it.”

“If you get to the stage where you can persuade people on the evidence, that it’s solid, that we are all African, that color is superficial, that stages of development of culture are all interactive,” Leakey says, “then I think we have a chance of a world that will respond better to global challenges.”

Leakey, a professor at Stony Brook University on Long Island, recently spent several weeks in New York promoting the Turkana Basin Institute in Kenya. The institute, where Leakey spends most of his time, welcomes researchers and scientists from around the world dedicated to unearthing the origins of mankind in an area rich with fossils.

His friend, Paul Simon, performed at a May 2 fundraiser for the institute in Manhattan that collected more than $2 million. A National Geographic documentary on his work at Turkana aired this month on public television.

Now 67, Leakey is the son of the late Louis and Mary Leakey and conducts research with his wife, Meave, and daughter, Louise. The family claims to have unearthed “much of the existing fossil evidence for human evolution.”

On the eve of his return to Africa earlier this week, Leakey spoke to The Associated Press in New York City about the past and the future.

“If you look back, the thing that strikes you, if you’ve got any sensitivity, is that extinction is the most common phenomena,” Leakey says. “Extinction is always driven by environmental change. Environmental change is always driven by climate change. Man accelerated, if not created, planet change phenomena; I think we have to recognize that the future is by no means a very rosy one.”

Any hope for mankind’s future, he insists, rests on accepting existing scientific evidence of its past.

“If we’re spreading out across the world from centers like Europe and America that evolution is nonsense and science is nonsense, how do you combat new pathogens, how do you combat new strains of disease that are evolving in the environment?” he asked.

“If you don’t like the word evolution, I don’t care what you call it, but life has changed. You can lay out all the fossils that have been collected and establish lineages that even a fool could work up. So the question is why, how does this happen? It’s not covered by Genesis. There‘s no explanation for this change going back 500 million years in any book I’ve read from the lips of any God.”

Leakey insists he has no animosity toward religion.

“If you tell me, well, people really need a faith … I understand that,” he said.

Leakey began his work searching for fossils in the mid-1960s. His team unearthed a nearly complete 1.6-million-year-old skeleton in 1984 that became known as “Turkana Boy,” the first known early human with long legs, short arms and a tall stature.

In the late 1980s, Leakey began a career in government service in Kenya, heading the Kenya Wildlife Service. He led the quest to protect elephants from poachers who were killing the animals at an alarming rate in order to harvest their valuable ivory tusks. He gathered 12 tons of confiscated ivory in Nairobi National Park and set it afire in a 1989 demonstration that attracted worldwide headlines.

In 1993, Leakey crashed a small propeller-driven plane; his lower legs were later amputated and he now gets around on artificial limbs. There were suspicions the plane had been sabotaged by his political enemies, but it was never proven.

About a decade ago, he visited Stony Brook University on eastern Long Island, a part of the State University of New York, as a guest lecturer. Then-President Shirley Strum Kenny began lobbying Leakey to join the faculty. It was a process that took about two years; he relented after returning to the campus to accept an honorary degree.

Kenny convinced him that he could remain in Kenya most of the time, where Stony Brook anthropology students could visit and learn about his work. And the college founded in 1957 would benefit from the gravitas of such a noted professor on its faculty.

“It was much easier to work with a new university that didn’t have a 200-year-old image where it was so set in its ways like some of the Ivy League schools that you couldn’t really change what they did and what they thought,” he said.

Earlier this month, Paul Simon performed at a benefit dinner for the Turkana Basin Institute. IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond and his wife, Peggy Bonapace Gelfond, and billionaire hedge fund investor Jim Simons and his wife, Marilyn, were among those attending the exclusive show in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.

Simon agreed to allow his music to be performed on the National Geographic documentary airing on PBS and donated an autographed guitar at the fundraiser that sold for nearly $20,000.

Leakey, who clearly cherishes investigating the past, is less optimistic about the future.

“We may be on the cusp of some very real disasters that have nothing to do with whether the elephant survives, or a cheetah survives, but if we survive.”

‘GENDERCIDE’: ANTI-ABORTION GROUP RELEASES UNDERCOVER EXPOSE PURPORTEDLY SHOWING PLANNED PARENTHOOD‘S COMPLICITY IN ’SEX-SELECTION ABORTION’

Live Action, a pro-life group based in San Jose, California, went undercover to discover a troubling trend that is occurring across the globe — sex-selection abortion (the process of purposefully terminating a pregnancy based solely on the child’s gender). While this phenomenon is known to be occurring in China, among other nations, the organization claims that it’s also happening here in the United States of America.

In part one of a new video series entitled “Gendercide: Sex Selection in America,” the group, which also launched ProtectOurGirls.com to accompany the sting operation, visits an Austin, Texas, Planned Parenthood for an undercover investigation. The findings may disturb you.

“This was a multi-state, national investigation demonstrating that this is a widespread problem across our country,” Live Action president Lila Rose said in an interview with The Daily Caller on Monday. “First of all, the statistics and studies indicate that we are adding to the growing problem across the world of sex-selective targeting of unborn girls for abortion. We are going to be demonstrating — starting with this video from Texas — that the abortion industry in the United States is aiding and abetting this horrific problem.”

It was in April 2012 that Rose’s group investigated these abortion clinics to see what would happen if employees were asked about aborting based on gender. In part one, which was released this week, a Planned Parenthood employee named “Rebecca” can be seen speaking with the undercover woman, who makes it clear that she only wants to abort her child if, indeed, it is a female.

“In this video, what is astounding is that Rebecca, the Planned Parenthood counselor, starts arranging with the actor about how to get a late-term abortion,” Rose continued in her interview with the Daily Caller. “To wait until her pregnancy is so developed that — and using Medicaid for this, using the state to pay for the ultrasound to determine the gender, and then to do a late term abortion if it was a little girl.”

As Rose notes, the employee seems completely unfazed by the woman’s gender-based plans and proceeds to discuss the legalities of abortion, specifically the time-frame during which the baby’s sex is detectable and how much time the woman has to go through with the procedure.

The conversation between Rebecca and the actress also turns to Medicaid, which the employee claims can be used to help the potential patient determine the sex of her baby so that she can later abort if it is a female. This, of course, would purportedly be done covertly (i.e. without telling doctors of the intent to abort) so that the sonograms can be covered by government insurance before letting doctors know of the intention to abort.

“I have actually applied for Medicaid — got on Medicaid — as if I was going to continue my pregnancy. Went through the OB/GYN and then me and my husband decided that we were going to go ahead and terminate,” Rebecca explained, recounting her own experience. “We terminated, and I still stayed on Medicaid and just got on birth control. Right after I got on birth control, I just stopped using it.”

Then, the faux patient asked, “So, um, so then I could, um, then we could probably, you’re thinking, if we did that, we could probably get pregnant again soon after?”

Rebecca answered affirmatively and said that she has had four children and two abortions and that getting pregnant again soon after is absolutely permissible.
